6.2 Meetings and Weekly Reports
As a Resident Assistant, you will quickly become the most knowledgeable person concerning your residents and community. Your Resident Director and the rest of RAD rely on you to communicate the successes and needs of your community so we can ensure you have the resources you need. Information is exchanged and shared in a number of facets, including weekly reports, staff meetings, and individual meetings with your Resident Director.
Each Resident Director will have different preferences and you will find your meetings take a variety of forms. Your Resident Director will inform you of expectations during training and throughout the year.
Staff MeetingsYou are scheduled each Wednesday from 3 - 5 p.m. Alternating weeks there are in-service trainings and small group staff meetings. The in-services will include a time for general announcements, group program planning time, in-service and on-going training, and all staff bonding opportunities. Area meetings are with just your staff and supervising Resident Director. The meetings will inform you of upcoming events, changes in procedures, and community issues that might impact duty or require action on your part.
You are expected to be on-time and engaged during staff meetings and in-services. These are work meetings. Please listen respectfully, ask questions and give input. When we are in a large all-staff group, it can get a little noisy if everyone is talking over each other. You are expected to keep side conversations to a minimum and always raise your hand when you have something to share. We appreciate it and we will try our best to keep the meetings interactive, fun and a productive use of your time!
The in-service training will help you build skills and problem-solve within your communities. Area time is a great way to bond with your staff and RD, as well as address specific needs and concerns of your particular community area.
Weekly ReportsWeekly reports are due each week by e-mail to your Resident Director by 10 a.m. the day of your one-on-one (unless otherwise told by your supervising RD). Weekly reports are a brief report of your community's climate, resident or roommate concerns, and questions you may have. This would also be a place to share with your RD about any programs you hosted during the week and also a check in for how you are doing and any support you may need. Your RD will use this report in your one-on-one meetings.
One-on-OnesOne-on-ones are individual meetings with your Resident Director. They generally occur once a week and last approximately an hour. These meetings vary in content and format depending on the Resident Director and you! It is not uncommon for this time to be spent talking over coffee or lunch but it can be whatever works best for you. The purpose of one-on-ones is to have private time with your supervisor to discuss resident concerns, your programs, staff concerns or needs, and your job performance. Most one-on-ones are also personal in nature and your RD is always happy to talk about how school and life is going for you.
