Media Loan Jobs

Media Loan is part of Media Services within the Daniel J. Evans Library. Media Loan lends audio, video, photography and presentation equipment to students who are using it for academic work.

Media Aide

Position Description

All student employees start as a Media Aide. This role is your training period and lasts at minimum one quarter, but no longer than three quarters. After this time, you can advance to a Media Assistant. This can be achieved by a quarterly review and you will receive an increase in pay.

Duties

  • Checking-out media equipment
  • Training students, staff and faculty on equipment use
  • Scheduling labs
  • Checking out keys

Student staff participate in regular trainings and workshops. We provide technical training and prior experience with media equipment is not required.

Media Assistant

Position Description

Media Assistants are students who can confidently and accurately teach patrons how to use equipment and are familiar with our business processes. Media Assistants have more responsibility and help to train co-workers.

Media Lead

Position Description

This role is for students who show interest and skill development in leadership, full understanding of Media Loan policies and procedures, as well as the ability to train lenders in most of the equipment onsite. Students interested in this role must first work as an Media Assistant for one year. 

This position has more responsibility for leading crew on shifts, opening and closing and training coworkers.

Electronic Media Jobs

Electronic Media is part of the Media Services workgroup within the Daniel J. Evans Library. Electronic Media supports audio, video and media for campus productions, while also providing staffing and expertise for instructional media workshops.

Electronic Media Student Worker

Position Description

This role is for students who show an interest in learning and using media equipment and technologies! Electronic Media is looking for student employees who are capable of team-based and independent work assignments, can problem-solve under pressure and are able to communicate effectively. 

Electronic Media provides on-the-job training in the operation of our facilities and equipment. Student staff participate in regular trainings and workshops. We provide technical training and prior experience with media equipment is not required.

Pay increases are based on additional job responsibilities or after one academic year in the role.

Duties

  • Setting up, operating, and/or striking audio, video, media and projection equipment for events, lectures, concerts, performances and other functions
  • Providing remote web-conferencing support for webinar-based events, workshops and other functions
  • Providing shift support for student users of the MultiMedia Lab and other media spaces
  • Supporting academic workshops
  • Providing video and audio documentation of live events, both in-person and remotely

Experienced student employees may acquire additional responsibilities, such as:

  • Editing video and audio post-production content, including event documentation, instructional content and a variety of other projects
  • Independently and collaboratively designing graphics, animation and sound design for content creation
  • Assisting with the design, setup and support of technical A/V/media productions
  • Acting as a student crew lead on assigned productions
  • Leading small-group workshops and trainings

Hours

Student workers may be required to work a minimum number of hours, including some early mornings, evenings and/or weekends, depending on the needs of productions and academic programs.

All student workers are expected to attend these weekly production meetings and trainings:

  • Weekly production meetings: Mondays from 3 - 4 pm
  • Weekly trainings: Wednesdays from 2 - 3:30 pm

Academic Year and Summer

Academic Year

  • Hiring for the academic year typically begins in mid-summer and lasts through early September.
  • Work study positions are filled first and then all other applications are considered as needed.
  • Applications will be accepted throughout the year and will be filled as positions become available.

Summer

  • Summer employment is freelance and based on needs throughout the summer. No regular team meetings or trainings take place during this time.
  • Applicants that have prior work experience are given priority.
  • Employment is not dependent upon summer course enrollment.

Photoland

Photoland is a part of the Media Services workgroup within the Daniel J. Evans Library. Photoland provides academic and photo production support for the Evergreen State College, but is also open to any student, staff, faculty, and the Olympia Community at large.

Photoland Lab Aide

Position Description

All student employees in Photoland start as a Lab Aide. This role is your training period and lasts at minimum one quarter. After one quarter of employment in Photoland, there is possibility of moving up to an Assistant Level Lab Aide which would result in a $0.25 raise.

Student employees accrue one hour of sick leave per 40 hours worked. Student employees are not paid for holidays and do not accrue vacation leave.

Duties

  • Maintaining the analog and digital facilities. Keeping spaces organized and tidy
  • Setting up and breaking down studio spaces prior to and after use
  • Providing support and guidance to fellow students and community members regarding photography-related activities
  • Ensuring that patrons are following the policies and procedures of their workspaces
  • Connecting patrons with additional support as needed
  • Intake of new remote work orders
  • Communication with patrons regarding the status of their orders
  • Maintaining organization of order tracking data
  • Film processing, digital printing and scanning of weekly orders
  • Communication with supervisors regarding the status of ongoing orders.

Hours

Shifts are typically between the hours of 9 am - 6 pm and about 3 to 5 hours in length.

There is a mandatory weekly training for all lab aides Wednesdays from 2 – 4 pm.
