MPA Costs and Financial Aid
Evergreen’s MPA program is one of the most affordable MPA programs in the country, with tuition and fees for Washington State residents at two-thirds or less of the cost of our Northwest competitors.
Tuition Rates and Student Fees can be found on the Student Financial Services site. Note: The Washington State Legislature and the Evergreen Board of Trustees set the rate of tuition annually. Tuition is subject to change without notice. The rates below are the estimated costs for an academic year (Fall, Winter, and Spring quarters only).

A full-time MPA student takes 8 to 12 credits per quarter, for a total of 60 credits. Students who attend at the full-time minimum of 8 credits per quarter (see "Full-Time min" column above) complete the program in roughly 7.5 quarters, which typically includes at least one summer. Students on the "2 Year Track" (in the column above) complete an average of 10 credits per quarter for 2 academic years, which equals 6 quarters (2 years of attending Fall, Winter, and Spring quarters).
A part-time MPA student takes less than 8 credits per quarter. Students who take 6 credits per quarter (see "Part-Time" column above) complete the required 60 credits in 10 quarters, or about 3 years. Students who take a different amount of credits will be charged per credit as demonstrated on the Tuition Rates webpage.
Financial Aid
For financial aid purposes, 8 credits per quarter is considered full-time and 4 credits per quarter is part-time. To stay eligible for federal aid, students must be taking at least 4 credits per quarter.
Federal Loans
Full-time MPA students typically qualify for a $20,500 unsubsidized federal loan every academic year, beginning the Fall quarter of admission. To qualify, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by following the process on the Financial Aid website.
Your financial aid package is based on the total cost of attendance, which varies based on the number of credits you take and if you have loan fees. Depending on your situation, you can also appeal to increase your cost of attendance, thus increasing your financial aid.
If you do not qualify for an increase in your cost of attendance but you have additional unmet need, you may also qualify for a Graduate PLUS Loan and/or a private 'alternative' loan. Loans vary in interest from 5% to 12% and may offer certain deferment options. See the Financial Aid website's "Loans" page for more information.
MPA-Sponsored Aid
We offer a variety of MPA-sponsored tuition waivers, scholarships, work-study, and other types of aid, as listed below. Our sponsored aid include a mix of need-based and merit-based aid.
To qualify for any MPA-sponsored aid with a need component, submission of a FAFSA by the Evergreen priority deadline is required. For 2017-18, you *must* submit the FAFSA so that the Evergreen Financial Aid Office receives it from the federal processor by the February 1, 2017 Evergreen priority deadline.
The 2017-18 FAFSA is available beginning October 1, 2016, and we recommend submitting your FAFSA no later than January 15, 2017. Note that the 2017-18 FAFSA uses *2015* income tax info. See the campus Financial Aid webpages for details.
To be considered for any of the MPA-sponsored aid listed below, you must complete and submit our online MPA Financial Aid Application. The Application is a Survey Monkey form, and applying for most awards requires just a 100 word mini-essay. In the list of MPA-sponsored aid below, click on the name of the award to access a page with more information about that award, including the specific subject of the mini-essay and other application information.
Note that after you submit your Application, it may take up to a week to receive an email confirmation.
The deadline for online submission of the MPA Financial Aid Application and any required supplementary materials is Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at 11:59 pm.
