On May 6 from 1:00 to 2:30 in Lecture Hall 1, the Vice Presidents and I will share our preliminary budget recommendations for the 2009-11 biennium. The detail documents that we'll be discussing are now posted on the Web site at: www.evergreen.edu/budget. Please take some time to review these documents and to join us at Wednesday's budget forum.
As you know, this budget presented an extraordinary challenge and presented some difficult choices. We have done our best to maintain enrollments, preserve our academic programs, provide financial support to our students in the face of declining state support, to minimize job loss and the erosion of compensation in the face of significant budget reductions, and to prepare ourselves for the possibility of additional cuts down the road if the state's revenues continue to decline. To accomplish this, we have proposed a 14% tuition increase in each year for resident undergraduates and 5% in each year for non-re sident undergraduates and resident graduate students. In addition, we have proposed a budget reduction of $7 million in each year of the biennium or 13.2% of the base budget. The details of these reductions are in the documents now posted on the Web site.
On May 13, we will share this same preliminary recommendation with the Board of Trustees. Based on your feedback and the feedback of the Trustees, I will develop a final recommendation, which I will ask the Trustees to approve on June 11.
Many people have done some extraordinarily difficult work to bring this recommendation to this point. I want to thank everyone who has participated in the process to date. Your continued support and feedback are appreciated.
