Julia Serano: Day of Presence (Tacoma Campus)

As part of The Evergreen State College’s Day of Absence & Day Presence event, The Tacoma campus S&A Board present Julia Serano, who will be speaking about Activism, Language, and Differences of Opinion & Putting the Feminine Back Into Feminism on April 14, 2017 at 7 pm. There will be an audience Q&A after the talk and she will sign books as well.

Connecting Adoptees Workshop

This workshop is specifically for folks who are adoptees or have been fostered or raised by other family members. It will be a space held for reflecting, connecting, and sharing with other adopted community members.

My Journey to Med School as a Woman of Color

Presented by Daniela Alarcón, student at the Pittsburgh School of Medicine

Daniela will discuss her journey to medical school, her personal struggles and failures along the way, and how she learned from them to become a stronger candidate and a better future physician. She will discuss the important steps she took to gaining acceptance into medical school, how she used her minority status as a tool to achieve this, and how she determined what school would be best for her.

Accessible Self-Care

Presented by Isiah Montejano, Multicultural Peer Advisor

College life is stressful, and self-care methods can help us cope with the anxiety and depression that stress can cause. In this workshop, we’ll explore methods of self-care, and discuss ways to make self-care more accessible to students. Participants will have an opportunity to identify their own stressors and define where they are in their own self-care practice.

Creation is Celebration: Creating Food for Community

In this workshop, we will discuss the importance of food and culture, access to healthy food through traditional dishes, and how food creates community.

Baratunde is a highly sought-after public speaker, television personality, and thought leader who has been part of noteworthy institutions such as Fast Company, TED, the MIT Media Lab, The Onion, and the gentrification of Brooklyn, New York.
