Cynthia McKinney --“Don't Get Tired When Working for Justice”

2008 Green Party Presidential Candidate, first African-American woman to represent Georgia in the House of Representatives, and relentless activist for social justice. Cynthia McKinney has been active in the Free Gaza Movement (which led to her being attacked and imprisoned by Israel) and was the subject of the documentary American Blackout, on voter disenfranchisement. She was recently awarded the Peace Through Conscience Award by the Munich American Peace Committee. 4:30 pm at The Evergreen State College’s Longhouse.

February 12, 2010 Budget Update

For those who have been following developments in regard to the Washington State budget, the Economic and Revenue Forecast Council released an updated revenue forecast today for the current 2009-11 biennium.  The forecast described state revenues as "bumping along the bottom" with a decrease of just $118 million compared to the November forecast. Given increases in state social service caseloads and other expenses, the estimated shortfall for the remainder of the current biennium is now $2.8 billion; up from $2.6 billion in November.

Howard Zinn Event on February 6 Cancelled

Celebration of Life

Howard Zinn, the author of "A People's History of the United States" and several other books has died. The Boston Herald reports he suffered a heart attack in Santa Monica, California. Zinn was 87.

AmeriCorps Education Award Policy

Have you successfully completed a term of service in an approved national service position with AmeriCorps/VISTA and are you eligible to receive an education award? If so, you will receive the money when the trust sends it to the school. Your Financial Aid Office will certify AmeriCorps payment vouchers for students who are currently enrolled at The Evergreen State College. This policy is consistent with eligibility requirements set forth by the Corporation for National & Community Service.

Financial Aid Policies

The Evergreen State College Financial Aid Office has policies and procedures concerning Terms and Conditions, Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) for both graduate and undergraduate students, the 10th Day Lock Procedure, and Return of Funds.

Types of Financial Aid Offered

Funding for some programs (e.g. the Federal Perkins Loan, the SEOG, ENG, STW, and Work-Study) is very limited. Students demonstrating need may or may not receive this funding. Please file the FAFSA before the priority deadline and promptly return any materials that you receive from your financial aid office in order to help us provide you with the best possible aid. Funds are also awarded on a first come, first serve basis.

How to Apply for Federal Direct Loans

After you submit the FAFSA and have been offered a loan, you may accept or decline the full amount of your loan eligibility through your my.evergreen.edu account. If you are offered a Federal Direct Subsidized (undergraduate students only) and/or Unsubsidized Loan, and want to accept less than the full amount offered, please let us know by completing and submitting the Direct Loan Request Form to our office.

Information about the Education Tax Credits

Education tax credits can help offset the costs of education.

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) provides tax benefits for education. Some tax benefits can be used to get some of the money back you spend on tuition or loan interest or to maximize your college savings.
