A founding faculty member of The Evergreen State College, Willi Unsoeld was a philosopher, theologian and mountaineer. He was well known for the first ascent of the West Ridge of Mt. Everest with Tom Hornbein, for which President John F. Kennedy presented them the Hubbard Medal, The National Geographic Society’s highest honor.

Evergreen Retires Super Saturday Event after 30 Years

After 30 years, The Evergreen State College is retiring its annual Super Saturday community celebration. The free family-oriented event included entertainment, food, arts and craft vendors and community service groups. It was held each June on the same weekend as graduation.

We have had several questions regarding the notion of furloughs and the details of possible scenarios.

Based in large part on employee feedback, we are taking a serious look at this approach. Here are some of the basic themes of recent questions:

Preview Day Offers Prospective Students an Inside Look at Evergreen

(Olympia, Wash.) The Evergreen State College in Olympia is rolling out the welcome mat for prospective undergraduate students and their parents with its annual Preview Day on Saturday, February 7.

Budget Scenarios

Given the state’s anticipated budget shortfalls, each division has been asked to develop budget scenarios for possible 10 and 15 percent cuts.  Those draft scenarios will be posted here (if you don’t see your division yet, you will soon).  Because each division faces different challenges, the formats and approaches of their scenarios vary as well.
