The Outdoor Program

Shake Down Climb (Required for Mt. Rainier Expedition)

Part II of the Mount Rainier program, this climb is open to all who have completed the Intro to Crevasse rescue. This is a two-day, overnight course which will teach participants the fundamentals of steep snow travel and cold weather camping at 10,000 feet. The group will hike from Paradise and ascend the Muir Snowfield to Camp Muir on the South side of Mount Rainier. After an early morning rise we will spend the second morning practicing crevasse rescue and glacier travel and hike out that afternoon to be back at Evergreen by 9:00 p.m. This is a physically strenuous course with long days carrying packs at higher altitudes; participants should train accordingly and be in good physical shape prior to the trip
