The Outdoor Program
Midnight Moonlight Snowshoe
“This is a perfect route when the snows have been falling heavy and low down on the hills. In those situations, you'll be using the lower Sno-Park, giving you an extra mile of snow to enjoy. And enjoy it you will. This route provides an easy alternative for snowshoers who'd rather avoid the popular path to the Copper Creek Hut (Route 76). The trail climbs steadily but gradually, piercing rich second-growth forests full of wildlife and winter wonders. At the trail's end, you'll find views down into the green-gray valley of Busywild Creek. Beyond the creek stretch the long gray hills of the Rainier Timber Company's tree farms, and to the east lie the old-growth stands of the Glacier View Wilderness abutting Mount Rainier National Park.” –Washington Trails Association
On the evening before the full moon, join TOP on a unique experience as we take a moonlit (weather pending), night time stroll in the snow up to the Busywild Overlook. Enjoy a mug of hot cocoa and take in the splendor of a silent, moonlit winter night, tucked comfortably into the blanketed evergreens of the Cascades. We’re hoping for clear weather but will be going clear skies or not. Even if we don’t see the moon, it is always a joy to crunch through fresh snow in the evening with good company. Trail is a gradual grade and stretches 6.5 miles round trip. Hot drinks and snowshoes provided! Be sure to dress warmly and bring snacks!
