SASS Student Employment

Student & Academic Support Services (SASS) is now hiring for fall 2017!

Student employment is a significant way that students can enhance their academic experience.  SASS employs over 50 students in positions that provide both leadership and professional development opportunities!

Student and Academic Support Services (SASS) have several student employment opportunities for fall 2017!  Through part-time student employment, students have the opportunity to enhance their academic experience by applying learned skills in a practical setting, while earning income to assist with college expenses.

Student employment positions at Evergreen are either institutionally funded or work study positions. Work-study is a financial aid award for eligible students as determined by the federal government. 

NOTE: Work Study positions run yearly from September 16 to June 30.

On-campus jobs are usually 6 to 19 hours a week, starting at or above minimum wage, and are paid twice each month on the 10th and 25th. The Washington State minimum wage is currently $11.00 per hour. Students must be currently registered for a minimum of 4 undergraduate or 2 graduate credits to hold a student position.

5/11/17 UPDATE:  Since many student positions are tied to work study awards (financial aid) which have not yet been announced, SASS will continue accepting applications until positions are filled.  You can safely ignore the stated application deadline of May 12 found in most posted job descriptions and/or applications (below).

Interviews are likely to take place during Weeks 9 and 10 of spring quarter.

  • Academic & Career Advising (ACA)
    SASS Peer Advisors are an important part of Evergreen’s student support system. In Academic & Career Advising (ACA), students work primarily in the SASS front office or at additional ACA work stations assisting students who call, e-mail, or visit our office for academic or career advice, or are looking for a connection with one of the other SASS departments.

  • Access Services
    Access Services provides academic accommodations to students with disabilities.  Access Services student employees are critical to ensuring timely delivery of approved services to students.  Student staff work in a fast-paced, multi-task environment including frequent interaction with students and are often the first point of contact for the office.

  • First Peoples Multicultural Advising Services (FPMAS)

    FPMAS is a free multicultural resource on campus. We provide comprehensive academic, social, and personal advising as well as community building and educational events from an anti-bias perspective. Our Multicultural Peer Advisors (MPAS) are trained as para-professionals/advisors and assist us with all of our events. MPA’s also serve as liaisons to different organizations on campus, perform active outreach activities, coordinate events of their own, work as part of a team and serve as representatives of The Evergreen State College.

  • New Student Programs
    New Student Programs (NSP) support new students during their first year at The Evergreen State College, and help them become successful and life-long members of the Greener community.  NSP recruits, hires, trains, and supports a diverse team of student leaders who are committed to the mission of facilitating successful student transitions.  Orientation Leaders and New Student Mentors work collaboratively with student and professional staff across campus to help new students build connections, navigate the institution, and access resources.

  • Trans & Queer Center (TQC)

    The TQC is a free community resource and space on campus. We offer specific outreach to Trans, Gender Non-Conforming, Queer, Intersex, Asexual, Agender, LGBT, two-spirit, and questioning students, and we are open to all students. We provide comprehensive academic, social, and personal advising as well as community building and educational events from an anti-bias perspective. Our Peer Advisors are trained as para-professional advisors and assist us with all of our events. Peer Advisors also serve as liaisons to different organizations on campus, perform active outreach activities, coordinate events of their own, work as part of a team, and serve as representatives of The Evergreen State College.

  • TRiO Student Success
    Outreach and Retention Interns provide necessary support and resources to TRiO students, as well as develop leadership skills in the areas of education, equity, and social justice issues.  Outreach and Retention Interns do a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: working with students, event planning, admin and staff support.

Training

Your hiring department will provide training materials and sessions to assist you with the specific position for which you have been hired.

If you need guidance or if you have general questions about working as a student at Evergreen, visit the Student Employment Office in the Library Building, 1st Floor, Room 1102, Monday through Friday 9 am to 5 pm (year round).
