June 17, 2006 | 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.
A FESTIVAL OF FUN FOR EVERYONE! -- FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC
Super Saturday is the premiere event for The Evergreen State College and the largest one-day arts, crafts and music festival in the state, offering a wide variety of entertainment and attractions to more than 15,000 attendees. June 17th marks the 28th Annual Super Saturday where people from all over the region will travel to the beautiful Evergreen campus to explore the arts and crafts of over one hundred vendors, experience 30 live performances from bands, dancers and other artists; and take in a number of fun kids' activities, not to mention lots of great food!
A number of artisans will be intermingled with Community Group booths. Be sure to check them out. Vendors will be located around Central campus, around Lecture Halls and between College Activities Building & College Recreation Center as well as the Seminar II Building.
More than 70 Community Groups from around the region will be on hand to share information, education and details on how you can get involved in the community.
A new addition to the Super Saturday festivities, Master Gardener Raymond Price will present valuable information and tips for plant and garden enthusiasts. Arrive early and check the Gardening Expo workshop schedule near Red Square.
Super Saturday will provide an eclectic and moving array of nonstop music and performances in four locations - on the Main Stage, KAOS 89.3 fm Stage, Local Musicians' Stage and the Leisure Education Stage. With rock and blues, folk and jazz, DJs and cultural dance performances, there is something for everyone. The Footbag and Juggling Stage features competitive action. Check the stage schedules for a list of performers.
Come to Super Saturday with room for food, food and more food! Treat yourself to a one-of-a-kind opportunity to sample new flavors and revisit old favorites with tastes from around the globe. Try some French crepes, German brats, Greek Gyros or enjoy a heaping plate of Vietnamese cuisine. If you're looking for traditional American foods, grab a hamburger, some barbecue, corn roasted on the cob or good old-fashioned ice cream! You're sure to find something to satisfy each of your taste buds. Various locations.
The Evergreen State College Alumni Association's 4th Annual Greener Oasis Beer and Wine Garden is held in The Greenery Café, on the first floor of the College Activities Building from noon to 6 p.m. Fishtale Ale microbrews and domestic beers will be sold, as will the Alumni Association's own private label wine. Want snacks with your liquid refreshments? Try some tasty pizza! MUST BE 21 with ID to enter. Proceeds benefit Evergreen student scholarships.
Kids, you'll want to join in the fun and games in Kids' Country. Ride the Whirly Bird or have your face painted! There will be tons of hands-on activities for little ones to experience - they can play with GAK, watch the Mad Science show or catch a martial arts demonstration specifically for kids. There will also be a "Find Treasure in the Woods" game for the older children and early literacy professionals to provide information about children's reading and learning. Parents will appreciate a comfortable and quiet area for infants needing to take a rest from the day's festivities. For a fee, try out the bouncy house or the climbing wall!
The Longhouse Education and Cultural Center hosts a Native Arts Fair, featuring regionally and nationally-known Native artists with traditional and contemporary works. View a spectacular selection of pottery, clothing, jewelry, basketry, carvings and dolls. Visit the Longhouse and witness Native traditions.
Worlds will collide as a delegation of Klingons, of Star Trek fame, visit Super Saturday. The Klingons of The IKV T'Mar are a group of science fiction fans dedicated to establishing a positive presence in the community through volunteer service and fundraising activities. The Klingons will perform Batleth demos (you know, that big curved sword), Klingon ceremonies (maybe a wedding!), Klingon drumming, Klingon foods (display only), and generally cause (good natured) mayhem. Be on the lookout as they may bring along some Romulans or other aliens. Parents, rest assured - it's all pretend, family friendly and educational as the Klingon delegation includes a couple of teachers, as well!
