January 18th - March 28th
Our goal is to increase recycling and reduce landfill waste
Evergreen is participating in the Benchmark Division Waste Minimization Category and the Food Service Organics Target Category of RecycleMania. This 10-week period is an amazing opportunity to raise awareness about recycling and compost, collaborate across the community on our Zero Waste by 2020 campus goal and save money!
We plan to:
- Implement clear signage around waste collection areas across campus

Track Your Trash!
How much DO you throw away? And what is it made of? Do you recycle or compost as much as you think you do? Consider keeping a 'Trash Journal' for a couple of weeks. Much like a food journal, which helps people get in tune with what they are putting into their bodies, a trash journal helps you to realize what you are throwing out. Through recording each thing you recycle, compost, or throw away, you can begin to recognize patterns in your purchasing habits, and thereby identify ways to reduce the amount you contribute to the nation's landfills.
Week 1: Record your normal habits, and look through those at the end of the week
Week 2: Brainstorm ways to reduce your consumption (or look through tips and ideas online), and see how much of a change you can make!
The Trash Journal (PDF) provides a guided layout which you can print out on both sides, follow the instructions (JPG) to bring down to a manageable size, and begin!
