Tyrus L. Smith, Ph.D.
Dr. Tyrus Smith is the interim executive director of the Tacoma Program. Tyrus has taught in Tacoma since 2000 and has played major governance roles at the College. Professor Smith earned a B.S. in Environmental Policy and Impact Assessment from Western Washington University (1994), and an M.S. in Environmental Studies from The Evergreen State College (1997), and his Ph.D. in Environmental Science and Policy at George Mason University (2004).
"I adopt an interdisciplinary approach to understanding urban environmental problems. My areas of emphasis include environmental science, environmental justice, ecology, environmental policy, and environmental sociology.”
