What You'll Learn
This certificate will introduce you to the essential skills used by GIS professionals working in the field. Through three courses, you’ll learn to collect, manage, analyze, and interpret spatial data and use that knowledge to advance toward your goals.

Combined with a master’s degree at Evergreen, this certificate will prepare you to work with physical and social scientists, policy makers, businesses, and more. You’ll also have a solid foundation to pass a professional GIS certification exam such as the ArcGIS Desktop Entry certificate offered by Esri, Inc (makers of ArcGIS software).
Certificate Requirements
Students Admitted to Evergreen’s Master of Environmental Studies or Master of Public Administration programs are given priority registration. Registration for non-admitted students who have completed a bachelor's degree is on a space available basis with instructor approval.
Students should email the instructor describing their prior undergraduate or graduate degrees, and whether they have significant experience with information technology applications such as Excel and Adobe Creative Cloud. Please mention any prior GIS courses taken at other institutions. The instructor will follow-up with a telephone conversation to discuss how the courses may contribute to the student's learning and career goals.
Certificate Coursework
This certificate consists of 12 graduate level credits. The following core courses must be taken in sequence:
Introduction to GIS - Spring Quarter, 4 credits
Advanced GIS - Fall Quarter, 4 credits
Special Topics in GIS - Winter Quarter, 4 credits
