About International Studies

International Studies combines the frameworks of language, history, literature, politics, social, cultural, and artistic studies to explore human communities across the globe.

Students gain communication, critical reasoning, cultural, and analytic skills to thrive in our complex world.

They continue to careers in education, business, diplomacy, area and international non-profit organizations, translation and cross-cultural communication, as well as to graduate-level study in the humanities, arts, and social sciences.

Evergreen's unique study abroad programs immerse participants in the history, culture, language, environmental, and socio-political contexts of a nation or region, often culminating in a three-to-ten week travel abroad experience where students and faculty journey together to study onsite in places such as the northwest coast of Ireland, France, Greece, Peru, China, and Nicaragua.

Other travel opportunities for students include student-developed learning contracts whereby students travel independently or in groups with faculty support and guidance. Students can also participate in consortium study abroad programs hosted by institutions around the world or engage in community-based work with local organizations serving immigrant and refugee communities.

Areas of focus include:

  • Latin American Studies
  • French Studies
  • German Studies
  • Irish Studies
  • Chinese Studies
  • Japanese Studies
  • Mediterranean Studies, including Italy and Greece
  • Middle East Studies
  • South-East Asia Studies
