This class will look at controversial issues in the criminal justice system through the lenses of legal studies and history. Students will face difficult questions about difficult topics and be asked to read critically, think openly, and dialogue respectfully within a distance-based learning community. The program will be taught online through the Canvas virtual learning environment, a chat room for live webinars, and e-mail. Topics will include jury trials, police use of force, drug sentencing, immigration enforcement, juvenile justice and others. Attendance at a one-time face-to-face orientation will be required Tuesday, June 27, 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Requests for alternative orientation arrangements considered case by case.
