The Evergreen State College
Established 1971
Opened in 1971, Evergreen gives students a hands-on, collaborative education that prepares them to succeed in an ever-changing world.
Enabling legislation stated that the college should be located on a site of at least 600 acres, making this college the largest campus in the state and the first public four-year college created in Washington State in the 20th Century.
The Evergreen State College in Tacoma
Established 1982
Evergreen–Tacoma began in 1972 with Evergreen faculty Dr. Maxine Mimms teaching students in her home in the historic Hilltop neighborhood. Evergreen Tacoma was built to meet the needs of Tacoma's unique and diverse community and was officially established in 1982.
