Computer Science: Equity in Software Systems

Dive into an eye-opening journey where computer science meets social justice in this exciting program. We'll explore digital systems (websites, software, etc.), uncovering unfairness and biases. Using Design Justice, by Sasha Costanza Chock, as our foundational text, we will delve into the historical and contemporary contexts of exclusion within modern technology.

As part of our exploration, we will learn how to evaluate digital systems by using inclusive QA (Quality Assurance) testing methodologies and assistive technologies (such as screen readers and alternative navigation methods). We'll also begin writing about our own experiences with technology and intersectional identities through creative nonfiction. We’ll read works by BIPOC, LGBTQIA2S+ writers with disabilities. Their stories will guide us in making technology more inclusive and fair for everyone.

By the end of the course, you'll understand how technology and social issues are connected and would have built your own inclusive and accessible digital portfolio to show off your ideas for a better, more inclusive digital world.
