Education Policy (B)

Kathe Taylor & Bill Moore
The world of education policy is complex, exciting, and has three distinct vantage points: early learning, K-12, and higher education. We’ll pose questions about 1-2 real-time provocative issues facing each sector, and explore the pros and cons of multiple, valid ways to address them. Guest speakers will challenge our thinking and add their perspectives on how public systems can support each student to become a contributing member of a democratic society. Students should expect to come to class having read a series of articles/reports that will be the foundation of seminars and discussions over the weekend. A short paper, due two weeks after the class has concluded, will provide an opportunity for students to explore a policy issue that speaks to them. It’s education—let’s learn something together!
