Re-Imagining the Body
This interdisciplinary course will explore how the human body was imagined by Eastern and Western cultures, and how we can re-imagine the body to achieve better health and a greater sense of well-being. In particular we will study body systems and examine ways in which body was imagined in Western scientific illustration and in Chinese alchemical images. We will look at major organs and body systems from physical, physiological, and spiritual perspectives. We will practice art making to illustrate interrelated systems of body and universe. We will explore new ways of understanding and representing our work of continuing self cultivation. Credits can be awarded in visual arts and health.
