Two Major Changes Starting 2017–18
- Apply Earlier! You can fill out your FAFSA or WASFA beginning October 1, 2016. Evergreen’s priority deadline is February 1, 2017.
- The FAFSA and WASFA now collects income information from an earlier tax year. For 2017–18 you will use 2015 tax and income information.
| Academic Year | When to Submit a FAFSA or WASFA | Which Year’s Income Information |
|---|---|---|
| 2015–16 | January 1, 2015 – June 30, 2016 | 2014 |
| 2016–17 | January 1, 2016 – June 30, 2017 | 2015 |
| 2017–18 | October 1, 2016 – June 30, 2018 | 2015 |

Benefits of this Change
- FAFSA application process will be more aligned with Evergreen's admissions and scholarship application process.
- No more estimating income information! Most tax filers will have already completed their taxes and can provide actual income information.
- More time for students to understand financial aid options and plan accordingly.
A Few Things to Consider
Use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool when possible (FAFSA filers). This will transfer your tax information from the IRS directly to your FAFSA to allow for the most accurate financial aid award. If you are selected for the Federal Verification Process you will not need to contact the IRS for your Return Transcript, so less hassle!
If your income information has changed from one year to the next you can still contact our office to find out about your options.
You can still be selected for verification, so be sure to read Evergreen emails and check your my.evergreen.edu account. We will request additional information if that is the case.
