COM 111A Intermediate Studio

COM 111A (w/ COM 110)

The Performance and Production Studio (formerly the Orchestra Rehearsal room) is one of the COM Building's two intermediate-level recording studios. This space has identical core equipment as the Recital Hall recording studio, and has a shared proficiency. COM 111A serves as the control room, with COM 110 as a tracking room. The control room has an API 1608 console, Otari MX-5050 mkIII 8-Track 1/2" tape deck, and quad-core Apple Mac Pro with MOTU 16a Thunderbolt interface, as well as a limited amount of rack equipment. The computer supports multiple DAWs, including Pro Tools 10, Digital Performer 8, and Logic X.

The proficiency for these studios is covered in both the "Intro to Audio Recording" and "Multitrack Composition" part-time classes. Students working outside of a program need to take a proficiency test to demonstrate their understanding of mixer signal flow and the use of the tape machines, as well as written permission from their contract sponsor and Electronic Media staff. For more information, contact Patrick LaBahn at (360) 867-5277 or the Audio Intern at (360) 867-5848. Studio use is for academic work only.

Scheduling procedures and a list of available microphones are detailed in the Audio Studio policy handout (PDF).
