Hoh Valley Trans and Queer Backpacking

Come visit Washington’s famous Hoh valley rain forest! The Hoh river trail features huge trees, cascading moss, Mountains in the distance, and maybe an elk. We will hike the ¼ mile mini rainforest trail. We will camp at the Hoh picnic area where we will talk about the future of the TQC and do some reflection. In the morning, we will drive back, stopping at Rub beach or beach trail #4 to check out the ocean. This trip is focused toward Evergreen’s Trans and Queer students. Led by Fiona Hessert (they/them) and Hana Rothner.

Exit 38 Rock Climbing

This beginners day trip will be a fun, informative intro to top-rope rock climbing. Geared towards new climbers, trip leaders will share their knowledge and teach basic skills that you’ll be able to build upon. Exit 38 is a recreational climbing area in the Cascades, about an hour and a half drive from Evergreen. Led by Micah Nordgren and Eli Staggs. Price: $20 Pre-trip meeting attendance required on May 10th at 6:00pm in CRC 113.

Slackline Over the Pool

Late-night fun in the pool. We will provide giant beach balls, paddleboards, slacklining over the pool, and more!

Climbing and Smores

Attempt the outdoor climbing wall and enjoy some fire pit s’mores. Learn about the CRC and The Outdoor Program (TOP). All abilities and experience levels welcome.

Crafting Truth: Documentary for Radio and Film

How do stories about social problems and social change help us understand the world we live in, and how can documentaries contribute to this understanding?  In this program students will learn to analyze and create documentaries that both reflect social change movements and contribute to them in two different mediums: video and audio.

Narrative Silences: Literature, Film, and Book Arts

Taught by

"Every word", in the world of one of Samuel Beckett's characters, "is an unnecessary stain on silence and nothingness." In this program, we'll encounter silence in a variety of practices: literature, film, and book arts. Students will practice creative writing and create their own artful books in response to program content and as their own play with the formal and intellectual uses of silence as a theme in narrative arts. We'll spend fall quarter developing a sense of the uses of silence in art from various artists, times, and places.
