Publication Excerpt

"We are in grand old Pennsylvania 4 miles to Aunt Mary's! Talk about rains - right here it began to pour - left highway on very poor dirt road 2 miles from Aunt Mary's slippery clay - in one run-out-tipping at side of road - lost tire out of car in drenching rain with best clothes, shoes out of run again. One more try - 1/2 mile more to go. Begin frantically blowing horn of car and slowly, skidding, splashing, slipping from side to side of road. We are here!" Pearl Hugunin Machenry writing about their arrival to her sister-in-law, Mary Blanche McHenry Graves home in Chester county, Pennsylvania. 10 June 1930.
