Biographical Note
Russell A. Potter was born in Cleveland, Ohio; his poetry and essays have appeared in The Goddard Review II, Postmodern Culture, Nomad, and The New Orleans Review. He has written extensively about the nineteenth-century fascination with the Arctic, and his work was featured in the 2005 episode of PBS's NOVA series, "Arctic Passage: Prisoners of the Ice." He has lectured in the United States, Canada, Ireland, and Britain; his most recent book, Arctic Spectacles: The Frozen North in Visual Culture, 1818-1875 was published in 2007 by the University of Washington Press.
He earned his Ph.D. from Brown University in 1991, and is currently Professor of English and Media Studies at Rhode Island College in Providence, Rhode Island.
