This scholarship was established in memory of Colin Reese, a 2003 Evergreen graduate whose goal was to explore options for a sustainable and more equitable economic system as a policy analyst or college educator.

Offered by The Evergreen State College Foundation, this scholarship was established in memory of Colin Ross, a 2017 Evergreen graduate who made the most of his experience at Evergreen by engaging in multiple field-based learning activities. To develop his expertise in wild life conservation, Colin studied abroad in Tanzania and Nepal, and completed an internship and an independent learning contract in Namibia.

To be eligible to receive the scholarship, a student must meet the following criteria:

• Undergraduate student who plans to participate in field-based, independent learning experiences, including Independent Learning Contracts, internships, Student-Originated Studies projects, or study abroad programs.
• Preference will be given to students interested in the sciences, especially wildlife or environmental conservation.
• Preference will be given to students with financial need.

Please also submit with your application materials a proposal for the project you hope to pursue that  incorporates computing into your discipline. Proposals will be evaluated for clarity and thoroughness, how realistic and attainable the goal is, creativity (e.g., is this new work that will stretch current thinking?) and utility within and outside of academics. The intent of this scholarship is to create an opportunity for women to become more educated, and to help them become more whole as members of our community and our world. It will help provide a more holistic than traditional approach to healing, just as Evergreen is a more holistic approach to higher education. The Phoenix Rising Scholarship will be given to women who have not abandoned the dreams of their childhoods, women who know that strength comes from living, and that while life may not always be fair or just, it is filled with possibilities.

Offered on behalf of The Evergreen State College Foundation, this scholarship is intended for Evergreen students at all undergraduate class levels. The scholarship is awarded to an individual student for one year.

Rachel Corrie, a lifelong Olympia resident, Evergreen student and community activist, was killed by an Israeli military-operated bulldozer in Rafah, Gaza, on March 16, 2003, while defending the home of a Palestinian family against unlawful demolition.

The scholarship is for students dedicated to gaining a better understanding of peace and justice efforts around the world. A focus on the Middle East is valued, but it is not required to be considered for this scholarship. Applicants must show how they will use their studies to explore and promote human rights and social justice through community activism, scholarly analysis and/or political advocacy.

Areas of interest may include: peace, social justice and conflict resolution studies; international relations; Arab culture and Arabic language; US policy in the Middle East.

Additional requirements

* Letter of application explaining your qualifications and why you wish to be considered for the scholarship. The letter should focus on (1) your interest in peace and justice; (2) how the scholarship will help you; (3) a short description of your intended studies; and (4) an explanation of how your analytical or creative work reflects your interests. Include a short description of how you plan to incorporate your studies into the community and/or international context described above. (Your letter can be up to two pages in length.)

* Include a sample of analytical or creative work that you have produced which conveys your commitment to and interest in social justice. This could be an analytic essay, prose, art, poetry, photography or anything else which you feel conveys your message about social justice issues. This piece of work should not be longer than five pages. In your application letter, make sure you include a short statement (about a half-page or couple paragraphs) about the relevance of your analytical or creative work to your application. Applications that do not include a statement of relevance will not be reviewed. If you’re submitting art or photography, do not send originals. (No DVDs, but links to online videos are acceptable.)

* One additional letter of recommendation (two in total) from individuals, other than relatives, who are familiar with your qualifications. If you are currently a college student, we would like to see a letter from one of your recent faculty members.

* Financial need will be valued in our review, but it is not a requirement for the Rachel Corrie Scholarship.

Offered on behalf of The Evergreen State College Foundation, this scholarship is intended for a new freshman attending full time who demonstrates service to his or her community through volunteer programs. Secondary consideration will be given to those with financial need.

Offered on behalf of The Evergreen State College Foundation, this scholarship has been created to honor the life and work of Raquel Salinas. For almost 20 years, Raquel Salinas served as the First Peoples Support Programs Coordinator and was a pivotal person in tirelessly supporting students and communities of color at The Evergreen State College. As a first-generation college student, Latinx, and Evergreen double-alumna, she contributed much of her life to shaping campus-wide student support strategies and furthering campus dialogue around race and equity.

To be eligible to receive the scholarship, a student must meet the following criteria:

• Engagement in First Peoples’ Advising programs, events, and/or services
• Demonstrated interest in pursuing a career in the broad field of education
• Demonstrated financial need
• Preference will be given to students of color (African American, Asian, Latinx, Native American, Pacific Islander, Alaskan Native or students who self-identify as multi-racial)
• Preference will be given to students who identify as having any type of disability.

Soroptimist International of Olympia, part of the world’s largest classified service organization for executive and professional women, has supported successful community service initiatives in the Olympia area for more than 60 years. The recipient is expected to attend a Soroptimist scholarship recognition meeting during the academic year.
