This scholarship was established in memory of Colin Reese, a 2003 Evergreen graduate whose goal was to explore options for a sustainable and more equitable economic system as a policy analyst or college educator.

Offered by The Evergreen State College Foundation, this scholarship was established in memory of Colin Ross, a 2017 Evergreen graduate who made the most of his experience at Evergreen by engaging in multiple field-based learning activities. To develop his expertise in wild life conservation, Colin studied abroad in Tanzania and Nepal, and completed an internship and an independent learning contract in Namibia.
To be eligible to receive the scholarship, a student must meet the following criteria:
- Undergraduate student who plans to participate in field-based, independent learning experiences, including Independent Learning Contracts, internships, Student-Originated Studies projects, or study abroad programs.
- Preference will be given to students interested in the sciences, especially wildlife or environmental conservation.
- Preference will be given to students with financial need.

Rachel Corrie, a lifelong Olympia resident, Evergreen student and community activist, was killed by an Israeli military-operated bulldozer in Rafah, Gaza, on March 16, 2003, while defending the home of a Palestinian family against unlawful demolition.
The scholarship is for students dedicated to gaining a better understanding of peace and justice efforts around the world. A focus on the Middle East is valued, but it is not required to be considered for this scholarship. Applicants must show how they will use their studies to explore and promote human rights and social justice through community activism, scholarly analysis and/or political advocacy.
Areas of interest may include: peace, social justice and conflict resolution studies; international relations; Arab culture and Arabic language; US policy in the Middle East.

* Letter of application explaining your qualifications and why you wish to be considered for the scholarship. The letter should focus on (1) your interest in peace and justice; (2) how the scholarship will help you; (3) a short description of your intended studies; and (4) an explanation of how your analytical or creative work reflects your interests. Include a short description of how you plan to incorporate your studies into the community and/or international context described above. (Your letter can be up to two pages in length.)
* Include a sample of analytical or creative work that you have produced which conveys your commitment to and interest in social justice. This could be an analytic essay, prose, art, poetry, photography or anything else which you feel conveys your message about social justice issues. This piece of work should not be longer than five pages. In your application letter, make sure you include a short statement (about a half-page or couple paragraphs) about the relevance of your analytical or creative work to your application. In addition, the applicant should be one or more of the following:

Preference will be given to students focusing on history and literature. Offered on behalf of The Evergreen State College Foundation, this scholarship is intended for students currently enrolled in Evergreen’s TRiO Student Success program and to program-eligible new students (first in their family to pursue a bachelor’s, low income, and/or have a documented disability) who have previously been affiliated with TRiO (i.e. Upward Bound, Talent Search, TRiO SSS at another institution). Applicants must participate in the TRiO Student Success program if awarded.

1) Describes how your involvement with TRiO has impacted your educational journey (such as your academic performance, self-confidence, ability to navigate higher education, and your commitment to completing your bachelor’s degree).

Important Information: this is a tuition award. Tuition Awards listed are a waiver of a student’s tuition. A recipient of a tuition award cannot receive funding in excess of the cost of full-time undergraduate tuition. In addition, a recipient of a tuition award cannot use the funding for any of the study abroad consortium agreements.
