Who Does TRiO Student Success Serve? 

First Generation Students

Are you the FIRST in your family to attain a bachelor's degree? If neither of your custodial parents or legal guardians have a bachelor's degree or higher then you qualify as a first generation student.

Low Income Students

Do you qualify as a low-come student according to federal guidelines? Do you qualify for a pell grant? Do you or your custodial parents/legal guardians not need to file taxes because your income is too low? If so, you may qualify as a low income student.

Students with a Disability

Do you have a documented physical or learning disability? Is this documentation on file with Access Services for Students with Disabilities? If so, you qualify for our services as a student with a disability.

What if I do not attend the Olympia campus?

Although TRiO Student Success mainly serves qualifying students who attend classes on the Olympia campus, we may be able to assist students from other Evergreen campuses on a case-by-case basis. If you attend courses on another Evergreen campus (Grays Harbor, Reservation-Based, or Tacoma) and would like to inquire about our services, please contact us by email trio@evergreen.edu or by phone (360) 867-6464.

When is the due date?
We do not have a deadline. You may apply any time of the year.


What if I only meet one of the eligibility requirements?
You qualify for TRiO Student Success if you meet one or more of the eligibility requirements. Even if you are still unsure, apply! Each application goes through a review process to determine eligibility and need.


Do I have to be admitted to Evergreen before I apply for TRiO/KEY? 
Yes, you have to be at least a half-time admitted student.

I'm a transfer student; Can I apply?
Yes, transfer students are eligible for TRiO Student Success!

How long does it take to get a decision about my acceptance?
Wait times vary; our program serves 180 students and we may put you on a waitlist if we are at capacity. 


What happens if I'm put on the waitlist?
Once you apply and your information verifies that you qualify for our services you will be placed on our waitlist as well as our mailing list. Through our mailing list you will be notified by email of TRiO events, workshops, and other programs which you may participate in while on our waitis.


Also, don't forget to check in by phone or email once and awhile to let us know you are still interested.

I'm accepted! What do I have to do?

Contact us by email: trio@evergreen.edu or phone: (360) 867-5927 and set up an appointment with an Academic Specialist. Once you have been accepted to TRiO Student Success you are required to attend an intake meeting which can take up to 1 hour. Contact us to schedule an intake meeting during open hours which are Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.


Do I have to take the TRiO Student Success academic classes?
If you are new to Evergreen, have struggled with academic coursework prior to joining TRiO, or are interested in building your skills and community - we highly encourage you to enroll in our academic classes. These classes are 2 credits, meet on Wednesdays from 1:30 to 3:30, and are offered during Fall, Winter, and Spring Quarters.


How many TRiO course credits can I earn during my time at Evergreen?
Six. TRiO offers several courses. Students can take three TRiO @Evergreen courses for a total of six credits.


How much do these TRiO classes cost?
If you are enrolled for 10 to 16 credits our TRiO classes are free. If you are enrolled for fewer than 10 credits, costs are determined by your in-state or out-of-state residency.
