Goals

The goal of Evergreen's Shelton Promise Program is to remove barriers and allow more Shelton students to attend and succeed in college.

This program blends access, affordability, and support to help Shelton students reach their goals, potentially graduate debt-free and pursue family-wage jobs that require college degrees.

Why Shelton?

Right now, about 30 percent of Shelton graduates go on to some kind of higher education right after high school, compared to 70 percent in the next-door Olympia School District. The program aims to raise the numbers of Shelton students graduating from college. It is our strong belief that by providing the opportunity for Shelton students to attend their local college tuition-free, our entire region will benefit from their success.

Modeled on successful college-promise programs across the country that offer place-based financial aid, Evergreen’s Shelton Promise is a pilot program, supported by the Washington State Legislature. The program will guarantee students a chance to go to Evergreen, have their tuition paid for, earn a four-year degree, and not incur significant debt. This offer is extended to all 2025/2026 Shelton graduating seniors who have a GPA of 2.0 or higher and who have completed college preparatory coursework.

Evergreen’s Shelton Promise aims to:

  • Boost career opportunities for all students
  • Build our local workforce, community and economy
  • Provide opportunity for students to pursue goals without taking on overwhelming debt
