Students and cultural volunteers in the Paimarire~Fiber Arts Studio on the Indigenous Arts Campus of the Longhouse, Evergreen State College, with their instructor Dr. Susan Pavel, would like to invite you to their Open House Studio Tour. The tour will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 28th only.

Come see their progress in the First ever class offered in a yearlong sequence of Coast Salish Wool Weaving.  Spring 2022 marks the first 4-credit class, "Processing Our Wool: Relating with Indigenous and Modern Fibers", offered in a sequence of five classes following Mother Nature's rhythms.  Students start with raw materials such as: mountain goat, sheep, and dog wool.  Blend these together with fireweed, cattail fluff, and waterfowl down.  Honoring these first teachers and the opportunity for students to learn each phase of the weaving.  This is followed by spindle whorl spinning and native plant dyeing in the summer.  Concludes with a beginning and advanced weaving 4 credit classes in the fall and winter, respectively.  We are uniquely positioned on the Indigenous Arts Campus to offer a yearlong study to produce culturally appropriate wool weavings.

With the support of the President's Equity Fund and generous students of "Processing Our Wool: Relating with Indigenous and Modern Fibers", we are sharing our knowledge to weave us together.
