This course explores the benefits of an arts-based curriculum in early childhood education, emphasizing how art, play, and literacy-rich experiences contribute to brain development and enhance imagination, cognitive growth, language, communication, and social skills. Using a culturally responsive lens, students will examine how diverse artistic expressions—such as visual arts, music, dance, storytelling, and drama—stimulate neural pathways and support holistic development. The course will highlight how engaging young children in art, imaginative play, and interactive literacy activities strengthens critical thinking, problem-solving, and emotional regulation, while respecting and reflecting their cultural backgrounds, languages, and experiences. Through hands-on projects, discussions, and reflective practice, students will design and assess arts-based, culturally attuned curriculum plans that nurture empathy, creativity, and inclusive learning in early childhood settings.
