All children enjoy singing, painting, and dancing. Yet, as we grow up, this natural ability becomes suppressed and often lost. This course will reach out to the inner child in students and provide opportunities to support children in need of care and education in the community. Lectures, studio arts, research, field trips and volunteer work with children in the community will develop students' competency as artists, parents, and educators. The course will also examine practices of education and self-cultivation from Eastern and Western perspectives. Our study will focus primarily on children of preschool age, 0-6 years old.
Credit will be awarded in arts and human development.
To successfully participate in this program, students will need to have access to the internet and to be able to buy the required text book and art materials. Students can expect our remote teaching to be around 4 hours of online coursework and 8 hours of independent reading, writing, and art work per week, using Canvas and Zoom. Students will have access to alternatives to synchronous participation if conditions require.
