The goal of this course is to provide students with opportunities to concentrate on advanced wheel-throwing techniques. Students are highly encouraged to have previously taken a ceramics course and possess the ability to center clay on a pottery wheel. Students will learn to develop better control over their cylinders, create forms with walls of uniform thickness, and improve their handle, spout, lid, and trimming techniques. Weekly demonstrations will cover surface techniques, lidded forms, plates, large vases, and teapots. Students will work toward developing a personal style while drawing inspiration from a library of historically celebrated ceramic designs.
