Diversity science is an emerging field of study that examines how ethnicity,gender, culture, socio‐economic class, and other group differences are created, perceived, and maintained. We draw insights from related disciplines in the social behavioral sciences and more including psychology, education, and social justice. Each week, we will sample key research streams and focus on how the scientific evidence can be translated to understand, reflect on, and potentially inform solutions to contemporary issues problems in STEM and society.

4 - Introduction to Diversity Science & Scholarly Writing
- Define and explain key diversity concepts (such as race, gender, Socio Economic Status) and how their individual and combined effects impact STEM fields.
- Develop skills to read scholarly articles and evaluate diversity claims.
- Write evidence-based scientific arguments in APA style.
- Judge whether and how science can be useful in addressing specific social problems in STEM.
- Apply diversity science insights to write about real world social problems in STEM.
- Appreciate the impact that people's identities have on their lived experiences.
