This course is designed to introduce students to the art and science of fiber preparation and spinning. Students will learn how to prepare fibers for spinning including skirting, picking, and washing raw fleeces. Students will learn how to align the fibers with different tools to produce different products. They will also learn about various spinning techniques and equipment, such as thigh spinning and the indigenous spindle whorl spinning. Through hands-on practice and demonstrations, students will gain a deep understanding of the process of transforming raw fibers into yarn. By the end of the course, students will have yarn that they processed and spun themselves.
