This is a remote home-studio intensive project-based course where students will build on the foundational principles and practices of visual design by directly applying their skills to create two brand identity style guides. All students will experiment in constructing a brand identity guide for a "coffeeshop concept" and then develop and pursue their own a second brand identity guide for a concept of their choosing. In the process of creating their style guides, students will continue to develop their skills in effectively utilizing Adobe Express and will learn to use Adobe InDesign, an industry standard desktop publishing and page layout software application, to deepen their knowledge of typography and print publication design.
Our work together in this course will focus on brand identity creation, project development, and digital publication design. Students can expect to achieve beginning to intermediate technical competency in Adobe InDesign through online instruction modules, assignments, and instructor support. All students will be given remote access to an Adobe Creative Cloud license while enrolled.
In order to participate in this remote-learning course, students will need access to a laptop or desktop computer with multi-core processor and minimum 8GB RAM, digital camera (phone camera is fine), access to the internet, and a flat working surface.
We will use the course site Canvas and meet on Zoom. Synchronous participation in the four hours of class is required, and students can expect to spend an additional 4-6 hours per week completing assignments. Students successfully completing the requirements for this course will earn 4 credits in Graphic Design: Brand Identity and Print Publication.
