This course provides teachers with lessons to integrate art, play, movement, and culturally responsive SEL into classrooms from birth to adulthood, fostering inclusive, holistic growth and academic engagement. Teachers will learn how these approaches support cognitive, social-emotional, and physical development, honoring students’ diverse cultural backgrounds. The course highlights groundbreaking artists, such as Edmonia Lewis and Jacob Lawrence, and the impact of figures like Alvin Ailey, Assane Konte, and Muntu Dance Theatre underscoring the movement’s cultural importance. Topics include creating lesson plans using storytelling, visual arts, and West African dance to encourage empathy, resilience, and community, equipping educators with practical tools to nurture student well-being and creativity.
