This course will trace the history and development of Native Americans in Film as they have emerged from the modernist renaissance in Native film. Working within cinematic genre that are fictional, documentary, and experimental, we will investigate the renaissance era. We will explore academic analysis, investigate behind the scenes, and watch movies. We will write illuminations and conduct mini-seminars as we move through issues related to history, representation, production, storytelling, and impact of the film arts as created by and reflected of Indigenous Peoples in the late 20th and early 21st century.
