This course will serve an introduction to painting through an investigation of landscape, portrait, the nude figure and still-life . It will provide a foundation for painting with gouache on paper with a strong focus on color theory. Emphasis will be placed on developing technical skills through observational painting, while researching art historically significant works to develop a personal vision. No prerequisites are required, though a background in the basics of drawing is recommended.


For this remote-only course, students can expect up to 3-4 hours of Zoom meeting per week and roughly 4-5 hours of asynchronous coursework/independent work time per week.
