This course is designed to help students take advantage of the opportunity for students to attend the American Psychological Association annual conference, where they have the opportunity to engage with prominent leaders in psychology as they share ideas and new findings that inspire action and change. Registration will include inspiring keynotes addressing societies most critical issues; collaborative, late-breaking scientific content; innovative poster sessions; and fostering connections and community. The American Psychological Association (APA) was founded in 1892 and continues to promote advancement, communication and application of psychological science and knowledge to benefit society and improve lives. The APA welcomes undergraduate psychology students to join the conference and/or the APA. Major themes to be explored in the 2023 conference include psychology in the global world, global mental health and public health, and conflict prevention and resolution.
Attending the conference is an important opportunity for students to hear from leaders in the field and potentially join emerging work groups to address critical issues facing the nation and the world. Students may be able to further develop these projects in programs or contracts after the conference. The conference is also an excellent opportunity to learn about psychology career options, trends in psychology and participate in networking opportunities.
The course will have a pre-conference meeting on August 1 students will attend conference programming online or in person between August 3-5 for a minimum of 15 hours, have a post conference meeting on August 8, and write a reflection paper and annotated bibliography summarizing sessions they attended in the context of Evergreen five foci. You will need to attend pre and post program meetings to participate in the course. It is also possible to view online conference programming though the end of the summer quarter to fulfill course requirements if your schedule does not allow you to fully attend during the conference.

Students can participate in this program by either attending the conference in-person or remotely.
To successfully participate remotely in this program, students will need online access. We will rely on asynchronous (online/videos/readings) and synchronous (live participation) options throughout the program using Zoom and Canvas.
