In this program, we will study writing about healing from trauma. The house of healing has many doors. (Physical, psychological, emotional, mental spiritual, etc.) How many doors do people enter? Writing about healing from trauma in ways that are not mere recounting, but are brave and artful in their approach is the subject of this program. We will write, focus significantly on craft, and discuss the joys and challenges of writing about healing. This is primarily a writing class, but the study of healing from trauma will be part of how we approach writing. We’ll study and write poems, stories, and the spoken word. We’ll read poems, stories, essays, scholarly literature, and we’ll watch videos of spoken word and comedy. Students will assemble a collection of writing related to trauma, healing, and resilience. If you are interested in writing, and social psychological healing, through the arts, this program is for you. This program will be taught with trauma-informed lens and is specifically designed to support those living at the intersections of identities and lived experiences. This course is offered through Complete Online Learning. This is the one of three courses that can be taken in any order which comprise the Writing Trauma, Healing, and Resilience Certificate.
