Miranda Mellis has a background in writing and painting and teaches literary arts and environmental humanities at Evergreen. In addition to teaching, Miranda has continued to write and publish books, stories, articles, essays, and poems; she uses her experiences as an active writer to incorporate contemplative practices into her teaching.

About her classes, Professor Mellis shares, "I aim to create an accessible, inclusive, trusting, convivial, and mutually supportive learning community...the creative writing workshops I facilitate allow students to generate new work and practice craft in community".

Miranda is also currently working on a book, Corcosmia (Nightboat Books 2025) and her works have appeared in various journals and magazines. Her most recent essay, "Patriarchal Realism: On the Banshees of Inisherin" was published in the journal Blindfield in early 2024.
