I joined the Evergreen State College in 2021, after teaching at the University of California, Berkeley, and spending more than a decade as a business development executive in the information technology sector. I have held marketing and management positions at Dentsu New York, SAP SE Europe, and Yaskawa - the world's largest manufacturer of robotics automation systems. My experience includes marketing strategy, brand positioning, product testing, new product launches, strategic alliance and partnerships, business negotiation, and global executive communication. While working in the corporate world, I founded a non-profit corporation in Northern California, and volunteered to organize fundraisers for other non-profits to benefit the victims of the wildfires.
I currently teach in the intersection of entrepreneurship, technology, business design, and changemaking. My research interests are in the area of managerial behavior, decision making, and product innovation. I enjoy sports, travel, and learning new things.
Education
Ph.D., Economics, University of California Santa Cruz, 2017; M.A., International Economics, University of California Santa Cruz, 1995; M.S., Economics, University of Wisconsin Madison, 1988; B.A., Economics, Macalester College, 1985
Teaching Style
Many of my classes utilize active learning and PBL (project based learning) pedagogy - students collaborate on small group work and discussion; PBL allows students to choose their own path to gain necessary knowledge and skills, and are provided multiple opportunities to receive feedback on their projects from the instructor and industry mentors in class.
